H.Essers Recorded: AkzoNobel Partnership: The Rhein project

After years of close collaboration, H.Essers and AkzoNobel have successfully completed the Rhein Project, a major consolidation initiative that sets a new benchmark for supply chain optimization. The project brought together all Benelux and DACH warehouses of AkzoNobel’s Performance Coatings division under one roof in Genk, strategically located near the Albert Canal and connected to H.Essers’ multimodal infrastructure.

This five-year journey involved integrating five business units, creating 40,000 pallet positions, and implementing value-added services such as tinting and late product labeling. The goal? Boost quality, standardize processes, and unlock synergies across operations.

Challenges included remote implementation during COVID, harmonizing systems and workflows, and managing hazardous materials. Through a stable project team, strong methodology, and relentless focus on improvement, H.Essers delivered a seamless transition.

The Rhein Project reflects H.Essers’ mission: providing best-in-class logistics solutions in complex environments while fostering long-term partnerships built on trust, transparency, and continuous improvement.
