Introducing the new inland water terminal MCT Markiezaat in Bergen op Zoom. Strategically located between the major European Sea Ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, this sustainable and cost-efficient multimodal transport solution is set to revolutionize the way freight is moved across Europe.

With a capacity of 250,000 TEU gate moves and accessible to all operators on a non-discriminatory basis, our new infrastructure offers efficient and green berthing, a modal shift of 260 trucks from road to inland waterway transport, a scale enlargement of 25%, and a CO2 reduction due to the use of green energy produced on-site.

Our location directly connects to the TEN-T Core Scheldt-Rhine Canal on the North Sea – Mediterranean Core Network Corridor, which means we’re contributing to the long-term goals of the European Union and the Netherlands, as presented in the Green Deal, Fit For 55, REPowerEU, and NAIADESIII.

All permits are currently proceeding as planned:

• The environmental permit (covering building, deviation from the zoning plan, conducting works and access road) is under review by the Province of North Brabant.
• The draft decision is expected in July 2023, with a deadline for completion in mid-August and a final decision in September to December 2023.
• The water permit, issued by the Brabantse Delta Water Board, has been reviewed and no objections have been received. It is expected to be finalized in early April 2023.
• The species exemption permit, issued by the Province of North Brabant, has been finalized and is currently available for public review. It will become irrevocable on April 18, 2023.
• The species permit, also issued by the Province of North Brabant, has been reviewed and no objections have been received. It is expected to be finalized on May 15, 2023.
• The excavation permit, issued by Rijkswaterstaat, has been reviewed and no objections have been received. It is expected to be finalized in early June 2023.
