H.Essers greatly expands chemical capacity with new Seveso site in Lommel

To meet the increasing customer demand in our chemical segment, our company is investing in the further expansion of its chemical solutions. In this context, we will develop 150,000 m² of Seveso-certified warehouses at the Kristalpark 3 industrial estate in Lommel. The site of some 27 hectares is conveniently located for international access by road, water and rail. With the investment, our company is also creating up to 500 new jobs and enabling further growth.

Strategic investment

As a logistics service provider, H.Essers serves many companies in the chemical sector. “And the demand for chemical logistics solutions continues to grow. So much so that the capacity at our Dry Port Genk site is already full, while we are still building warehouses there. That is why we had to look for additional space in the region,” says CPO Salvatore Napolitano.

H.Essers bought a 27-hectare plot on the Kristalpark 3 industrial estate in Lommel. “We remain true to our Limburg roots and are once again choosing local anchoring. The location is strategically situated for access to Germany and the Netherlands. Due to the proximity to water and rail, it is completely in line with our synchromodal vision of transport as well.”

Future-oriented investment

Construction of the first Seveso warehouses will start in early 2022. In time, Lommel will have 150,000 m² of storage space for all types of hazardous goods. H.Essers already has 600,000 m² of Seveso warehouse space in Belgium, Denmark and Romania. The investments in Lommel therefore provide for a considerable expansion of the capacity for chemical customers.

“As a logistics service provider, we want to grow along with our chemical customers. With this investment, we are creating the necessary space for them to continue to offer innovative, one-stop shop solutions in the future. At the same time we are looking ahead: with 500 new jobs, we are investing in the local job market, all while turning the site into a beacon of sustainability. Planted with species that support biodiversity, 15% of the surface area will remain green and dedicated to nature. In addition, the warehouses will eventually be equipped with solar panels
and the office buildings will have green roofs as well.”
