Expanding our footprint in Denmark

On August 16, H.Essers broke ground on its new modern warehouse in Ringsted. The investment is the company’s largest in Denmark to date, and it will help ensure that it can meet the demand for logistics solutions from customers in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the future. The new warehouse is scheduled for completion in 2024 and is expected to create more than 150 jobs in Ringsted Municipality in the long term.

H.Essers is already present in Denmark with locations in Allerød and Taastrup, but the new warehouse is the company’s largest investment on Danish soil to date. The investment will help ensure that H.Essers can continue to meet the demand for handling essential goods such as medicines, pharmaceuticals and dangerous goods in the future.

“Denmark is a strategically important market for us, and after 15 years in the Danish market, we are excited to expand with a third location. With the new warehouse, we will finally have the right infrastructure to handle the pharmaceutical and chemical products to an extent, that we can’t offer at our current locations in Denmark. It’s has been quite a challenge to develop a mega site as this, and I look very much forward to welcome existing and new customers soon,” says Carlo Theunissen, COO Warehousing at H.Essers.

The site where the new warehouse will be built is already approved for hazardous activities and the storage of dangerous goods, and the warehouse will therefore be built to the highest quality and safety standards for fire protection, among other factors by having a foam extinguisher system for flammable liquids. Initially, the warehouse will be built with an area of 10,000 m2 with a special focus on handling chemical products. In the long term, it can be expanded to 65,000 m2, which also allows for the handling of pharmaceutical products in various temperature ranges and the storage of almost 100,000 pallets.

“By building a completely new warehouse, where we can provide tailormade solutions, we secure our future position in Denmark and the Nordics. It’s quite unique what we can offer here in terms of infrastructure and our capabilities. At the same time, we also have the opportunity to implement green solutions from the beginning, and our new building will be built with large solar panels and be BREEAM certified,” explains Steven Swennen, Business Unit Manager Nordics at H.Essers.

The new warehouse will be centrally located on Zealand in Ringsted, where the municipality welcomes H.Essers. The warehouse is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, and as the warehouse is further expanded, it is expected to create more than 150 new jobs over time.

“The prospect of new jobs in the municipality is always good news, and we welcome it. Our workplaces help to make Ringsted Municipality an attractive place to live and at the same time enable us to develop our municipality in the future. Therefore, we are pleased and proud that an area like Business Park Ringsted is also an attractive place to do business for large international companies such as H.Essers,” says Henrik Hvidesten, Mayor of Ringsted Municipality.
