Genk/Nola, October 23, 2023 – Logistics service provider H.Essers is acquiring Italian transport company Romano Trasporti. Romano Trasporti, headquartered in the south of Italy, operates both nationally and internationally. Over the years they developed into a reference in the healthcare sector. The Romano family was looking for a like-minded and experienced partner to enable further stable growth. For H.Essers, the acquisition is part of its growth strategy to expand and strengthen its healthcare logistics network in Italy.
Romano Trasporti is a Romano family business with homebase in Nola, near Naples. Today, sons Gennaro and Tommaso Romano are in charge. Antonio Romano, head of the family and founder of the company, is still active in the company and focuses on the drivers, the fleet and the garages. The carrier employs approximately 120 people, including 95 drivers, and owns a modern fleet of 95 trucks, and 100 temperature-controlled trailers. Romano Trasporti, a reference within the healthcare sector, handles national and international logistics for several leading players.
Cultural and business match
In search for security and stability in an increasingly complex market, the Romano family had been looking to team up with a logistics partner, which they found in H.Essers. Genk-based transport company H.Essers was also looking for a like-minded player to grow further in Italy and expand its business within the healthcare sector. Christopher Van den Daele, H.Essers COO: “Italy has been one of our focus countries for years. We have operated there since the 1980s. Our business is growing organically, but we are always looking for interesting expansion opportunities. With the acquisition of Romano Trasporti, with a presence in Naples, Rome and Milan, we are strengthening our logistics network in the country and further expanding our services for healthcare customers. The acquisition is also in line with our asset-based approach: we continue to invest in our own people and fleet to increase our capacity. In addition, our family businesses share the same values and culture. This was a major factor for both parties. We extend a warm welcome to the Romano family and all their employees in our H.Essers family and look forward to working together.”
Complete solutions for healthcare
“Thanks to this acquisition, we have now access to the expertise of a renowned healthcare player, which enables us to offer our customers even better services to develop their operations in Italy,” continued Joris Mertens, Business Unit Manager Healthcare Transport at H.Essers. “Romano Trasporti’s logistics network and transport activities complement ours, with our cross dock in Milan, for example. Their headquarters are also close to Nola’s train terminal. That means we can fully commit to our synchromodal approach and rail as an alternative to road transport.”
The Romano family is also delighted with the acquisition. Gennaro Romano: “The logistics market is becoming increasingly complex and, as a company, we wanted to ensure continuity for our customers. We are happy that we can now do that together with our team under the wings of the family-owned H.Essers, which offers us a lot of perspectives. Our customers can also count on the additional experience and capacity of this leading international logistics player. This acquisition offers us and our employees, H.Essers and our customers numerous significant benefits.”
