Ecolab and H.Essers celebrate more than two decades of partnership with launch of e-shuttle pilot project
Ecolab and H.Essers proudly announce a pivotal milestone in their 20-plus-year relationship with the launch of an innovative e-shuttle pilot project. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in sustainable logistics for the companies, as H.Essers deploys its first-ever electric truck to shuttle Ecolab’s goods between Genk, Belgium, and Tessenderlo, Belgium. The fully electric truck will transport 1,000 deliveries annually from Ecolab’s production plant in Tessenderlo to its European hub in Genk.
The e-shuttle project represents the shared commitment of both companies to drive sustainability and innovation in their operations. For H.Essers, this collaboration highlights that achieving ambitious targets, such as the 42% CO2 emissions reduction goal by 2030, is only possible through partnerships like these. In the short to medium term, initiatives like this will play a vital role in paving the way for electric trucks to achieve a competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to diesel trucks. Ecolab is steadfast in its commitment to achieving its vision to create 2030 Positive Impact. The launch of the electric truck in Europe contributes to the company’s overall emissions reduction strategy. Through close collaboration with its partners, Ecolab is driving a positive impact and advancing sustainable growth.
Pilot project with ambitious goal
This e-shuttle initiative is part of a larger pilot project developed by H.Essers. It includes six electric trucks from three different manufacturers, expected to be delivered throughout 2025. Depending on the model, these trucks can travel between 350 and 500 kilometers. The project aims to cut 66-100 tons of CO2 emissions each year by using 100% green electricity.
The first two trucks in this project are the MAN eTGX models, which set the stage for evaluating electric vehicle performance in real-world operations. The pilot will gather data on practical performance, real-world range, and costs under varying conditions. These insights will shape future expansion and scaling of H.Essers’ electric fleet operations.
A testament to collaboration
Reindert Baars, Director Sustainability Europe at Ecolab, emphasizes the importance of this milestone: “Sustainability is core to our purpose. Across every industry we serve, we collaborate with partners to deliver a more sustainable and prosperous future. Our joint effort with H.Essers is a proud reflection of this spirit.”
Christopher Van den Daele, COO Transport at H.Essers, shares his excitement about the pilot: “The introduction of our first electric truck is a proud moment for H.Essers. It’s a tangible example of our dedication to innovation and sustainability. Partnering with Ecolab on this initiative highlights the strength of our relationship and our shared vision for a greener future.”
Van den Daele further noted: “We have long been investing in diverse solutions, and electrification marks an important next step that we are initiating through this pilot project. By testing different truck models, ranges, and technologies in real-world conditions, we aim to gather critical insights that will inform the future scalability of our electric fleet. We have long been investing in diverse solutions, and electrification marks an important next step that we are initiating through this pilot project. This collaborative effort with Ecolab helps us pave the way for a more sustainable logistics sector.”
“Innovation and technology play a crucial role in driving sustainable performance and achieving long-term goals,” said Reindert Baars. “Sustainability is a collective effort, and we must work together to create a positive future.”
