H.Essers handles on-site and off-site activities for Janssen Pharmaceutica

Of all the medicines that the American company Johnson & Johnson brings to the market, almost two in three active pharmaceutical ingredients are produced by Janssen Pharmaceutica, a division of this American player.

Day in, day out, 24/7, the smallest molecules are shaped into fully-fledged medicines at the Geel site. A complex task, because – since it concerns chemical and pharmaceutical products – the company must meet the highest safety requirements and GDP standards. Janssen Pharmaceutica was therefore looking for a stable logistics expert to offer it on-site support. They found an experienced and reliable partner in H.Essers.

Since April of this year, the team of 10 H.Essers employees has been responsible for the internal handling of goods and the internal distribution by truck of the refined substances between the warehouse and the various production plants of the site. “To get fully familiar with the safety procedures, our employees received rigorous training before starting”, says Wouter Weltens, Business Unit Manager at H.Essers. “Even the employees who already had a forklift diploma and were familiar with dangerous goods, received additional training at the Janssen Pharmaceutica site. That is the level of safety that H.Essers stands for.”

The partnership that H.Essers and Johnson & Johnson entered into for this specialised service will run for at least five years. “A dedicated supervisor from our company is also present at the site in Geel. It’s nice to see how our team and the Janssen Pharmaceutica team are already working together so well. A great start to a promising partnership.”

In addition to this on-site activity, H.Essers also offers support at its own Dry Port site in Genk. At this site, with a focus on the chemical sector, the overflow of 1500 pallets of dangerous goods is stored according to the highest GDP standards, with active temperature control from 2-8° C and 15-25° C. Janssen can also count on H.Essers for temperature-controlled transports to the site in Geel.
