Aftermovie & Expert Paper on Challenges in Chemical Logistics

On 25 June, H.Essers welcomed some one hundred logistics managers from leading chemical manufacturers to the second edition of the informative event Challenges in Chemical Logistics. This time, it was organised at our Dry Port site in Genk – the ideal location to explore the opportunities for a more efficient and sustainable supply chain with a number of renowned (inter)national guest speakers. The main topics of the day were centered around the concepts of connectivity and synchromodality.

Our economy is in full transformation: climate change, the imminent Brexit, sustainability, urbanisation, and digitisation are just a few of the factors that are shaping our future economy. They are factors that affect all industries, including the chemical industry. Yet the latter is also confronted with other challenges such as changing markets, rapidly changing customer expectations (increasingly specialised products and even tailor-made products), stricter regulations, increasing traffic congestion, etc.

These are challenges which not only affect profitability, but also have a strong influence on the supply chain and therefore also on logistics services to chemical customers. More than enough material for an engaging event with a variety of speakers. For example, Otto Schulz and Marc Herlant, partners at EY Parthenon, discussed general trends in chemical logistics, while Pablo Nosti Fernandez, Manager EMEA Logistics Procurement & Operations at DuPont, extensively explained the established supply chain network of the DuPont company. Gerhard Blaess, Senior Global Category Manager Logistics Procurement at Axalta, spoke about how a logistics service provider can contribute to Axalta’s growth strategy thanks to its knowledge and experience as well as its local and international presence.

In our expert paper we thoroughly address these challenges and the concrete solutions that we as a logistics service provider can offer.
