Acquisition of Huktra – the next step in the booming growth of our chemical market segment

Following the investments in our trimodal chemical site, H.Essers Dry Port Genk, and the ISO tank terminal and filling installation at the Wilrijk site, we are expanding our chemical market segment even further with the acquisition of tank container specialist Huktra. Partly thanks to the location of Huktra in the port of Zeebrugge and Huktra’s international branches, we can now offer our customers in the chemical industry even better synchromodal all-inclusive solutions.

Since 1976, Huktra – just like H.Essers a family business – has grown into one of the most important European intermodal logistics service providers for chemicals. Under the direction of Gerd and Tim Van Poucke, the second generation in charge of the company, Huktra’s 897 chemical tank containers mainly transport liquid bulk, dry bulk and powders. In addition to its own maintenance centre at the headquarters in Zeebrugge, Huktra also has offices in Italy, Spain and the UK. With the take-over of Huktra, H.Essers is now active in 17 countries with 71 offices and sites. Both business managers Gerd and Tim Van Poucke and all 50 employees will maintain their posts after the take-over and they will be welcomed into the H.Essers family. Thanks to this take-over, this Flemish logistics gem will remain in Flemish hands.

Win-win

Safety and quality are of utmost importance in the chemical industry. Thus, Huktra strives to maintain the same high standards as H.Essers in this field. Thanks to the acquisition, both companies will be even better equipped to respond to the current environmental and mobility challenges. The more possibilities to manage transport chains in a synchromodal way, whereby the transport options, routes and goods flows are optimally combined and planned by the logistics service provider, the more efficient, advantageous and sustainable they will be. A win-win situation for all parties involved: our chemical customers, logistics service providers and not least, society at large. H.Essers is strongly committed to synchromodality, which we regard as a true game changer in the logistics industry. The construction of our new chemical site, H.Essers Dry Port Genk, is a leap forward in that respect.
